Job Description

The Staff Pharmacist is responsible for supporting pharmacy management’s goals and objectives within the dispensing pharmacy. This role provides comprehensive, accurate, and timely drug screening, information, processing, and dispensing services across multiple drug distribution systems. The Staff Pharmacist ensures that medications are delivered safely, efficiently, and in full compliance with all regulatory standards.

Key Responsibilities

Pharmacy Operations & Workflow

  • Execute daily pharmacy operations including workflow management, production quotas, and deadlines.
  • Ensure the workflow dashboard is cleared daily.
  • Supervise pharmacy production staff to maintain proper order entry, workflow efficiency, pharmacy security, and adherence to delivery schedules.

Medication Review & Dispensing

  • Review all new and refill orders for completeness and accuracy.
  • Verify the content, accuracy, packaging, and labeling of all medications.
  • Prepare and/or supervise the preparation of sterile IV medications and solutions .
  • Dispense prescription medications accurately and efficiently.

Regulatory Compliance

  • Ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal pharmacy regulations .
  • Assist in maintaining compliance with DEA policies and procedures , following the stricter standard between company policy and regulatory requirements.
  • Ensure adherence to third‑party payer contract requirements .
  • Follow all applicable government regulations, including HIPAA .

Controlled Substances Management

  • Assist with ordering, receiving, handling, documentation, and storage of controlled substances.
  • Support maintenance of a perpetual inventory for Schedule II medications .

Coverage & Professional Conduct

  • Provide evening and weekend coverage as part of the scheduled rotation.
  • Comply with departmental policies regarding safety, attendance, and dress code.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Work Environment

  • This position operates within a long‑term care facility .
  • Routine use of pharmacy and office equipment including computers, phones, photocopiers, fax machines, filing cabinets, and rolling carts.
  • Work area may be noisy due to operational activity.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to sit or stand 7–10 hours per day
  • Occasional climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, bending, crouching, walking, or crawling
  • Ability to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds
  • Extended hours may be required as operational needs arise

Education & Experience Requirements

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Pharmacy from an accredited School of Pharmacy
  • Current pharmacist license in good standing
  • Proficiency in clinical interpretation including:
  • Drug–drug, drug–disease, and drug–food interactions
  • Allergy screening
  • Strong verbal and written English communication skills
  • Ability to multitask and work efficiently in a fast‑paced environment
  • Ability to work flexible schedules, including evenings and weekends
