Job Description

Summary

Managing and directing shop personnel responsible for machining, welding, assembly, repair, shipping and receiving and inventory management. The Company believes that each employee makes a significant contribution to our success. This contribution should not be limited by the below listed responsibilities. Therefore, this position description is designed to outline primary duties, qualifications, and job scope, but not limit the employee or the company to only the work identified. It is our expectation that each employee will offer his/her services wherever and whenever necessary, to ensure the success of our endeavors.

Essential Duties

  • Direct supervision of shop personnel including training, performance management, and scheduling of work
  • Understand and improve skill sets of shop personnel
  • Maintain a positive employee relations environment including implementing a communications plan and recognition programs
  • Manage shop workload and productivity
  • Development and implementation of procedures and standards for production efficiency in all areas
  • Sponsorship of lean process improvement initiatives
  • Manage cost reduction projects
  • Support environmental, safety and health programs
  • Support quality management system programs
  • Provide communication and support to other departments
  • Maintain positive relationships with sales channels
  • May assist in annual operations review preparation and business planning
  • Responsible for purchase of materials, parts and tools as well as preparation of appropriation requests for capital investments
  • Responsible for machine and possibly building and fleet maintenance
  • Regular and predictable attendance

Education and/or Work Experience

  • Post-secondary education preferred
  • 2-5 yrs. experience in both supervision and technical positions in machining and assembly operations preferred or demonstrated prior leadership skills
  • Mechanical skill as well as a sound working knowledge of machine tools, welding techniques and valve assembly tolerances and standards
  • Superior leadership/organizational/interpersonal/communication skills
  • Safety and loss prevention skills.
  • Familiarity with “Lean” process tools would be an asset
